3. Creeping From the Field Back Into the Ocean
4. Colored Noise Under the Gaussian Bell Curve
5. Dirty Concrete

Bio/statement:
Abusive Consumer is J Morales - painter, musician and sound installation artist. His music is influenced by the evolution of electronic music - from its early musique concrete days to the present stylistic multiverse. He enjoys modeling the sounds of nature and machinery. He is an adventurer in chaos through the use of feedback systems, looping, synthesis, and chance operations. Previously he has played in numerous groups and ad-hoc ensembles across the western US with an emphasis on improvisation- running the gamut - from prog rock, free jazz, noise, ambient, glitch, digital hardcore, minimalism, industrial, drone, microsound and electro-acoustic composition. In the last five years his focus has been on solo performance and composition.

Abusive Consumer’s music has been released on his own RMCLRR label as well as Righteous Conservative, Corpus Callosum. Ilse, Retrograde Tapes, Control Valve and the RRRecords recycled series.

-Define Divine-
All the sounds herein are made from the manipulation of samples in Audacity (of varying fidelities) taken from field recordings, raw data, synth jams and sound fx records. Manipulations were done with a mind to the early days of tape composition using: transposition, filtering, reverb, ring modulation, delay and various forms of synthesis.

CONTROL VALVE #028 IS NOW READY FOR DOWNLOADING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

http://www.controlvalve.net/

artist: chefkirk + Carl Kruger
title: “physical release”

1. Physical Release – recorded live/in one take, Wilmington, NC

   May 2010

   Carl Kruger – laptop

   chefkirk – no-input mixing board

Bio/statement: “Although Roger and I have amassed a small body of collaborative works going back to 2004, the session that produced "Physical Release" was the first recorded in each others presence in real time. All the material was recorded with minimal equipment (laptop for me, no-input mixer for roger), situated on the floor in the corner of my small, low-lite living room. No one else was present. This spatial immediacy allowed the two of us to act not only as sound contributors, but first audience members. I find that the aural tension apparent through our "Physical Release" speaks to the concept of body-as-extended-ear. Roger and I touched upon in our 2006 ep "The Body Is A Material Thing" (http://www.archive.org/details/n0epcd0106).

The belief in abstract sound design freeing the listener to explore more personal means of experiencing non-standard, non-musical sound was central to that release, and could be argued as the notion marrying the execution of the sound on “Physical Release" and its results. That said, the dynamic tension found on "Physical Release" is a palpable one, and is what makes this release such a worthwhile listen for me, personally. It represents a huge step forward in my own work, and in my on going shared love of noise music/abstract sound with Roger.”

artist: [view]
title: “feral denudation”

1. extraction cycle – live 2nd May, 2011: Axe & Fiddle, Cottage Grove, Oregon (17:31)
2. rolling on plastic seas – excerpt of live,12th June, 2011: New Zone, Eugene, Oregon (09:03)

Bio/statement: I guess it really just boils down to my favorite times during my formative years having been listening to machinery churn in the industrial sector of town in the dead of night, and having a go at getting those sounds and feelings to translate into the contained realm of electrical signals.
I've been building, repairing, sustaining and watching the decay of equipment for a multitude of years now. My primary gear is mostly tubed, as it feels, sounds and smells different than dissimilar technology. That said, I'm not a format snob, I just prefer to use elderly hardware instead of a computer.

Process: Interleaved circular paths of cascading AGCs¹, swinging bias overlaid on intertwined discrete and integrated PN junctions2 being pushed by voltage from a vacuum tube pulse generator.
All audio herein is single pass analog performed live, manipulated via both automatic logic level comparison and human intervention; no multi-track or time domain processing, minimal active frequency filtering (no real time manipulation of dedicated EQ or purpose built filter). Analog signal captured digitally and rendered for your pleasure.

¹ – Automatic Gain Control
2 – Point in semiconductor structure where positively and negatively doped substrates meet.

- i have been blessed, blessed?, yeah. ok, so, i have had the wonderful opportunity to witness, on many occasions, a live set from [view]. i found it a major pity that those outside of the pacific
north west may not be as touched by the divine hand as myself, not able to experience the raw energy, sizzling electronics, and the mad scientist hiding behind his cursing and spitting machines. the [view] sound is raw, in your face, dynamic and always engaging.

CONTROL VALVE #026 IS NOW READY FOR DOWNLOADING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
http://www.controlvalve.net/

artist: rez epo
title: xantp

bio:  i began to make noise sometime around 2005-2006. since then, my sound evolved from crude and rather crunchy digital (at that time all my recordings were made on laptop with Audiomulch as my main tool) loops to slightly more refined, drony landscapes with some ambient and noise elements still present. i also run my own diy label - chaosynod -  in which majority of my works is released. and i hate writing bios.

gear:  the cornerstone of my sound are two signal generators: a no-input mixer and electro-harmonix flanger hoax, the latter just working on its own, no fx loop whatsoever. both signals are then processed with up to 5 different effects, most often RAK phaser, ibanez chorus/flanger, occasionally boss oc-2 octaver, and the last but not least - digitech digiverb and digidelay, both of which i always place at the end of the chain. i try to avoid using distortion of any kind, since my experience is that it tends to flatten the whole sound and make certain details simply inaudible. i prefer to finish each track in a single take. everything's recorded in audacity and edited/mastered in adobe audition.

- i’ve been a fan of this Wilmington, NC duo since their first 3” came out on 910noise. I can’t really explain “what” it is that makes me come back to their brand of harsh noise. some people just “get it” when it comes to this type of dense-harshness, and i think these guys know, you know?
well, now you do.

CONTROL VALVE #024 IS NOW READY FOR DOWNLOADING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
http://www.controlvalve.net/

artist: Andrew Chadwick
title: Suede

bio:
Andrew Chadwick performs and records most frequently under the moniker Ironing, creating a collage of broken and modified records, microcassettes, tapes, and radio. Releases under his own name focus primarily on cut-up autobiographical lo-fi field recordings of the in between moments of everyday life.

process:
Suede was a commercially available, mass marketed cassette until layer upon layer of recordings erased each other sedimentarily, obscuring nearly all of the original content. Carefully selected sounds via lo-fi phonography were recorded over post-market pop detritus. These captured everymoment sounds are both common and rare, familiar in their form but unique in space, time, and context. The lo-fi handheld cassette recorder used expands the act of recording as a compositional element to include the sound of the recording device itself.

All edits were made linearly within the tape recorder itself. All the sounds that remain, however slight, represent a choice for that moment to be represented instead of what was there previously.

Suede is made from the underside of the skin.

Recorded in Gainesville, FL during the end of 2009

CONTROL VALVE #023 IS NOW READY FOR DOWNLOADING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
http://www.controlvalve.net/

ARTIST: Aikichi Kuboyama
TITLE: "Broken"

bio: “The noise started at December 2009. Then, in 2010, I released a demo called "Two Untitled Tracks", this demo was released through Datahex Records. My first "real" album was, at first, a self-released cassette limited to 15 copies, but it's available through FFM Records, a now extinct netlabel for obscure music. 2011 started with an EP called "Conflict", presenting my best noise so far...”

proccess: “The equipment is cheap: lots of free software, casio, amp, mic and some funny things to bang on. I start with a wall and add lots of effects, in order to create a noise mess. But, I change my process very often, and I might just record something directly from keyboard or do the whole thing digitally. I like to call myself a live producer, because after getting all the sounds ready, I improvise the structures and watch how two sounds react together. To be honest, that's what makes it interesting.”

CONTROL VALVE #022 IS NOW READY FOR DOWNLOADING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
http://www.controlvalve.net/

ARTIST: OTOLATHE
TITLE: "Mad Mountains of Rust"

"K. Paul Boyev's OTOLATHE project usually concentrates on studio improvisation. Spontaneity, randomness, and novel sound/noise textures are emphasized. He read Xenakis' Formalized Music once and prefers to think it was ghostwritten by Andy Kaufmann. He prefers to base his musical forms on the obscure taoist martial art called Baguazhang, although he rejects the tyranny of the numbers four and eight.”

“This work was realized using all analog sources with the exception that an Alesis Bitrman was used.  It was recorded to 1/2" Quantegy GP9 analog tape."

- i would file this stellar work somewhere in the genre of, oh, well,

ARTIST: Wjiik og chefkirk

TITLE: “we love ginger candy”

Wjiik - “editing and eq-ing in audacity + mixing in premade samples (analogue, digital and too much different ways of working for me to remember it all)"

chefkirk – “digitally processed no-input mixing board feedback”

“we love ginger candy” is an old/new-school e-mail collaboration between Wjiik, also known as Torstein Wjiik (see ctrl_vlv_003), or Kjetil Hanssen from Oslo, Norway and chefkirk who is Roger H Smith from Eugene, Oregon (see ctrl_vlv_012)

“Kjetil sent me 1 long session of sounds meant to be cut up and used as some sort of source material, I thought the session was great on its own, as a whole, so I just added some digitally processed no-input mixing board feedback in the mix. What we have here is one, almost, 18 min. piece of faux-electro-acoustic-digital-crud-concrete. Hmm…. Really??? Sure, I think this is great, but I may be a bit biased.”
